In the 1828 dictionary, the word used to describe competence is "qualified". I did some research, and found some cool quotes on competence and qualified.
I saw in my research a little saying that says, "Love qualifies men for the work of the Lord." Don't be scared. You might be wondering, "WHAT?! I have to be qualified for the work of the Lord? Dang. I think I fail." Don't let yourself think that! What you need to realize is that we don't have to have special "qualifications" or talents to work for the Lord! We just need to be spiritually ready. We need to be humble, charitable, and ready to serve. That's all.
President Thomas S. Monson stated, "Our responsibility is to rise from mediocrity to competence, from failure to achievement. Our task is to become our best selves. One of God's greatest gifts to us is the joy of trying again, for no failure ever need be final." (emphasis added) I love this because 1) of the words he used; 2) we have a task to become our best selves; and 3) no failure is final. I love the words "mediocrity to competence". Think about that. Mediocrity (barely passing by, scraping the bottom of the barrel, dragging your feet) to competence (rising to the occasion, soaring). Failure (we know what this means) to achievement (I hope we all know this one, too.) The wisdom in those 4 words astounds and inspires me. We have a TASK to become our best selves. What does that mean? Are we not ourselves? What I understand it to mean is that we need to reach our full potential. To do this, we need to stop listening to the wrong voices (they are the negative ones), and put our WHOLE FAITH into the Lord's hands. If we can do that, we will become our best selves. Lastly, NO FAILURE IS FINAL! As humans, we can fail and fail and fail, but through the Lord, we can overcome, overcome, overcome. Through the Lord we can do all things (See Luke 1:37).
You run the race of life only competing with yourself. To win, keep trying and moving forward. Your family and leaders [don't forget your friends!] are cheering you on.
There. How's that for a blog post? And I didn't even write down everything I had! So all, beware, I will write long like this most of the time.
This is me, signing out, for this time.
Kirsten,
ReplyDeleteI have an issue with one thing about bloggers.
DO NOT APOLOGIZE ON *YOUR* BLOG. About anything unless it's against a rule of God or across one of your moral boundary's.
Ramble if you want. Seriously. The stuff you have to say is important in a practical and spiritual sense, even if it may come across as a bit rambl-y. :)
And I absolutely agree. No failure is final. I can testify to that.
Kirsten, You are Brilliant.
