Word Definition: Competence (Part 2)

There are a few thoughts I have had about this subject recently, and would like to share them with you.

First. I've probably said this already, but God doesn't called people to do his work who are professionals in that specific field. "Many are called, but few are chosen." And you know why they are chosen? Because they have character (more on that later). Remember that. God doesn't call professionals, He calls people who He knows that will do it; that are so dedicated to Him that they will do it.

Second. Don't let the Whatif's into your head. Here's a poem to illustrate:

Last night, while I lay thinking here,
some Whatifs crawled inside my ear
and pranced and partied all night long
and sang their same old Whatif song:
Whatif I'm dumb in school?
Whatif they've closed the swimming pool?
Whatif I get beat up?
Whatif there's poison in my cup?
Whatif I start to cry?
Whatif I get sick and die?
Whatif I flunk that test?
Whatif green hair grows on my chest?
Whatif nobody likes me?
Whatif a bolt of lightning strikes me?
Whatif I don't grow talle?
Whatif my head starts getting smaller?
Whatif the fish won't bite?
Whatif the wind tears up my kite?
Whatif they start a war?
Whatif my parents get divorced?
Whatif the bus is late?
Whatif my teeth don't grow in straight?
Whatif I tear my pants?
Whatif I never learn to dance?
Everything seems well, and then
the nighttime Whatifs strike again!
Never let this happen to you! You are a Child of God. He has sent you here. He has given you parents and friends who love you very much. Learn to say, "Lead me, guide me, walk beside me; help me find the way. Teach me all that I must do to live with Him someday." Part of competence is being humble, so that God will call you for His work, for, "With God, nothing shall be impossible." (Luke 1:37)
